Jira Data Center integration for PI Planning
Run PI Planning in Kendis on top of your self-managed Jira Data Center. Epics, features, stories, sprints and dependency links sync both ways, and Kendis runs outside Jira, so your planning is not tied to a Data Center app.
- Two-way, real-time sync
- OAuth through Application Links
- Cloud or self-hosted
Kendis and Jira Data Center at a glance
- Connect with
- OAuth 2.0 or OAuth 1.0a through Jira Application Links, or a username and password
- Sync
- Two-way. Kendis writes through the Jira REST API and a Jira webhook sends changes back
- Hosting
- Kendis Cloud if Jira is reachable from the internet; self-hosted Kendis if Jira is only reachable inside your network
- Runs outside Jira
- Kendis is not a Data Center app, so it keeps working whichever way you move
Atlassian ends Jira Data Center on 28 March 2029. Kendis runs outside Jira and connects to Jira Cloud too, so you can keep planning through a migration. Read the Data Center end-of-life guide.
How to connect Jira Data Center to Kendis
About fifteen minutes for an admin.
Create the ALM account
In Kendis, add a Jira ALM account, choose OAuth 2.0 and copy the callback URL.
Add an application link
In Jira, go to Application links, create an incoming External application link, paste the redirect URL and set the permission to Admin.
Authorise Kendis
Paste the client ID and secret into Kendis and request the auth token.
Connect each user
Each planner authorises their own OAuth token from their Kendis profile, so edits show under their name.
Build the board
Fetch features with a Jira filter or JQL, map team sprints and start planning.
What syncs between Kendis and Jira Data Center
Synced both ways
- Epics, Features or any parent issue type, chosen with a Jira filter or JQL
- Stories linked by Epic Link, Parent Link or any Jira link type
- Sprints, mapped per team to a Jira project and board
- Dependencies as Jira issue links
- Summary, key, status, sprint and story points, plus up to 5 extra fields for features and stories
- Start and end dates for features and stories
Good to know
- Jira administrator rights are needed to create the application link
- If Jira sits behind a VPN, Kendis Cloud cannot reach it; run Kendis self-hosted on Docker, OpenShift or Linux
- Self-hosted Kendis includes a Test Webhook utility to check the Jira connection
- A Jira link type is used either for dependencies or for parent and child, not both

Frequently asked questions
What teams ask before they connect Jira Data Center.
Yes. Kendis syncs two-way with Jira Data Center: epics, features, stories, sprints and dependency links stay in Jira, and Kendis adds the cross-team planning layer.
Through an OAuth application link created by a Jira administrator, or with a username and password. Each planner then authorises their own token so changes show under their name.
Not if Jira is only reachable inside your network. In that case run Kendis self-hosted, so it can reach Jira directly.
Atlassian ends Data Center on 28 March 2029, and apps that run inside Jira Data Center stop with it. Kendis runs outside Jira and also connects to Jira Cloud, so your plans move with you. See the Data Center end-of-life guide.
Yes. Dependencies between Jira items sync both ways as Jira issue links.
