Microsoft TFS and Azure DevOps Server integration

Kendis connects to Microsoft Team Foundation Server (TFS), now called Azure DevOps Server. Features, user stories, iterations and dependency links sync both ways, so on-premises teams can run PI Planning on a live board.

  • Two-way sync
  • TFS 2018 and 2019
  • Cloud or self-hosted

How to connect Microsoft TFS to Kendis

About fifteen minutes for an admin.

1

Create the board

In Kendis, create a board and choose Azure DevOps (TFS 2018, 2019) as its type.

2

Add URL and token

Add your TFS server URL and a personal access token, then test the connection.

3

Load projects

Load your projects; Kendis reads statuses and work item types and sets up a service hook for each.

4

Bring in features

Fetch features with a query. Linked stories come in with them.

5

Map teams and iterations

Map each team to its project, team, area path and iterations, then start planning.

What syncs

What syncs between Kendis and Microsoft TFS

Synced both ways

  • Features or any parent work item type, chosen with a query or WIQL
  • Linked child work items such as user stories
  • Teams mapped to a project, team, default area path and iterations
  • Dependencies as link types such as Successor and Predecessor
  • Estimate and due-date fields, mapped per project
  • Statuses and work item types from more than one project

Good to know

  • Kendis documents support for TFS 2018 and 2019. On a later Azure DevOps Server version? Contact us to confirm
  • If the token owner cannot create service hooks, add a Work item updated webhook for each project
  • An expired or revoked token locks the board until it is replaced
